A slightly later start today for us from where we were
staying in Fort Augustus.
We passed through Fort Augustus and reached the swing bridge
just before it swung open like the mouth of a big giant serpent.
We rushed out along the main road (A82) for ¾ mile to avoid a steep up and around section (and the traffic by rushing) and we joined the Great Glen Way near the Inch Hotel. The Great Glen Way was well signposted with blue posts and a thistle image. Most of the walk today was along forestry tracks. There were views across to Cherry Island, the only island on Loch Ness. There were a couple of up and down sections but nothing the fearsome three couldn’t manage.
We had a short stop on the track above Loch Ness, watching a
couple of boats sail down the loch.
The track became narrower as we approached Invermorriston, crossing
a bridge with some dramatic waterfalls either side. Once in Invermorriston, we found
our way to the bus stop, where we waited patiently for our (running late) bus
back to Fort Augustus.
We all walked 8 miles today and have spent the late afternoon chilling before we wandered into Fort Augustus for a healthy tea of fish and chips and icecream!
Tomorrow’s walk is from Invermorriston to Drumnadrochit, a
13 miler. Also, a change of base as we head to the outskirts of Inverness. See the green dot, that's where we are!
Our fundraising total is now a massive £3985 (99% of the new target of £4000). https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/garry-marie-and-alfie-walk-end-to-end
