An early start was made to avoid the predicted high temperatures occurring after lunch. Alfie easily recognises the clues that a walk is imminent!
Garry decided to take the road to Balmaha and to join the West Highland Way (WHW) from there to Rowardennan.
Me and Alfie joined Garry in the Oak Tree coffee shop and the three of us walked out along the beautiful Loch Lomond shoreline, very different from when we walked the WHW in September 2021. (Have we mentioned that we have walked the WHW before?) There were many more people walking today, as expected for a sunny Sunday during the Scottish school holidays.
We walked through shady woodland, every now and again dipping down to the shoreline of Loch Lomond with many little secluded beaches.
Once we reached Milarrochy Bay, there were many many families using the beach areas, and the allocated parking was full so cars had overspilled onto the passing places and verges. On my return walk to Drymen, it was interesting to see that all the cars not in the car parks had yellow parking tickets. Stirling District do well out of a sunny weekend in Milarrochy Bay!
After Milarocchy Bay, the WHW continued along the shoreline. It did get slightly more undulating as he headed towards Rowardennan, at the agreed pick up point at the edge of Rowardennan Forest.
After arriving back in Drymen, we wandered down to Skoosh cafe where we had a lovely late lunch.
Garry walked 12.1 miles today and me and Alfie walked 5 miles. You can see from the map below that there is another day of walking to get to the far end of Loch Lomond which is the plan for tomorrow, to end at Beinglass Farm in Inverarnan. Garry plans to walk the high road this time rather than the rocky low road, which requires lots of clambering.
