A pleasant day, there was a bit of a headwind but still warm. Garry set off early from Linlithgow along the Union canal, quite a well maintained canal. The towpath coincided with the John Muir Way.
Along the canal, there were a couple of high bridges with the canal flowing along it (the Avon aquaduct) over the River Avon (not the same one that we know!). For pretty much the whole length there was a railway line very close.

A couple of miles before Falkirk, Garry walked through a gloomy tunnel with a slippery footpath.
Whilst Garry was avoiding slipping into the canal I went to visit the Kelpies, 30 metre tall horse heads, quite a vision, designed by Andy Scott to capture the story of Scotland's heritage. Well worth a visit.
The excitement was palpable as Garry approached Falkirk wheel, a fine feat of engineering. Me and Alfie met Garry there and wondered at the boats moving form the higher Union canal to the lower Forth and Clyde canal.
Alfie then walked with Garry along the Forth and Clyde canal for 3 1/2 miles to Bonnybridge where we had a rendez-vous and Solero in the car park before the long drive to Drymen for our next Airbnb.
Once we had settled in (and I was on an online meeting), Garry headed into Drymen to revisit an old haunt from when we walked the West Highland Way in 2021. Today Garry walked just over 13 miles . We are now north of both Edinburgh and Glasgow!Tomorrow sees a continuation along the Forth and Clyde canal to Kilsyth and onwards to Kirkintilloch.
