Garry was dropped at Fairnilee Farm whilst me and Alfie went back to the Airbnb to enjoy a coffee and a leisurely hour and a half.
Garry followed Cycle Route 1, northwest away from the farm which was in fact a very quiet country lane. He saw lots of cyclists (Saturday) and they were all very friendly. The weather was bright and breezy. There were a few ups and downs and the road ran more or less parallel to the River Tweed. We had slightly underestimated how long it would take Garry get to Walkerburn but me and Alfie walked out of Walkerburn to meet him and then we had a quick lunch at the Airbnb for a change. Garry had already walked 7 1/2 miles before we then headed off towards Peebles.
The three of us followed Cycle Route 1, which was along an old railway line (Tweed Valley Railway Path) . This went through Innerleithen and Cardrona. On the way we saw a few fishermen fishing whilst standing in the river. We also saw evidence of the old railways stations and walked passed a very long golf course on both sides of the path. There were golf buggies whizzing along everywhere!
We also passed a practice archery session at Peebles Hydro.
We enjoyed a quick coffee and cake in Peebles, as the cafe was just closing, before catching the bus back to Walkerburn.
Garry walked 17.2 miles at a good speed of 3.2mph as it was such was a good path most of the way. 5 1/2 hours of walking for him. I walked 10.7 miles, as we had the opportunity to get the bus back so less driving was needed today. We had a few drizzly showers, but nothing too heavy. We even saw a little sunshine.

Tomorrow sees us leave our Airbnb in Walkerburn and walk from Peebles to West Linton, getting ever closer to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Wow! Just checking back in on your blog after a wee while…you are way north!! What a sturdy set of 8 legs you have between the three of you! Amazing progress, super inspiring. I really hope the adventure is still meeting you well? How is it feeling to have dropped so deeply into walking as a way of daily being?
ReplyDeleteHi Tom, all going to plan thanks, slowly moving northwards.
DeleteWe’re well into the routine of it now, taking day by day.
