Day 35 Crowden to Standedge (a day of streams and reservoirs and a new county, West Yorkshire)

Today, Garry was joined by Andy. It was an early start and I waved goodbye to them at Crowden as they set off with trepidation for a planned 11.8 miles and a huge 2672 feet ascent.

After a false start (where they took the wrong path!) there was a relentless uphill section. There were a couple of fords to negotiate (unsuccessfully by Garry who ended up with a wet foot).

They soon came to a  very windy escarpment, where they hurried along passed Laddow Rocks, over numerous little streams.

There was a long drawn out ascent to the peak of Black Hill, where Garry 'bagged' another trigpoint on a rocky outcrop called Soldier's Lump.

Soon after, there was a welcome downhill section, more streams to cross and then they crossed the busy A365 at Wessenden Head, an ideal place to frame the landscape.

Six small reservoirs were then passed and soon after they saw the welcome sight of the car park where me and Pippa were there to collect the walkers.
The extra mileage must be due to poor map reading skills at the beginning! Not quite sure how they managed to lose 300 feet of ascent!

Today is transfer day and we met Vicki and Mark at our new Airbnb. They'll be joining us for a few days for some walking.
