This was the second day for us on the Pennine Way, a 7mile section from the summit of the Snake Pass to the small village of Crowden.
The start point was at reasonably high in elevation so not as much climbing as yesterday. We walked across Shelf Moor along a well defined path which was very pleasant. We went close to the site of a crashed B29 bomber (from 1948) but as it was about half a mile off the Pennine Way we decided not to visit.
Soon after we summited Bleaklow and passed some folks having their 'lunch with a view' we headed slightly downhill over some rocky terrain, over a lively brook towards the meeting point with Marie.
Marie walked up over 1000 feet and needed a rest at the top to wait for us,
We met Marie having her own 'lunch with a view' overlooking Torside Reservoir and we all reckoned it was much better than having lunch at our desks!
All that was left for us to do was walk down the hillside, across the dam of Torside Reservoir, through some shady woodland to the car, parked in Crowden.
That took longer than we thought so we thought we'd have a cuppa and some cake in a cafe recommended by our local guide, Jenny.
This evening Jenny is off to running club (very impressive) and Marie is going to join the Glossop Rock Choir (again impressive dedication). Meanwhile Alfie and I will put our feet up and do nothing.
Tomorrow sees the other half of the Brown couple walking from Crowden to Standedge, a little longer and more climbing!
Stunning scenery. Well done, Marie. Those sort of ascents are tough. Tom says it's not the mileage that counts, it's the amount of elevation - and he should know from all his walking in the Scottish wilderness!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear from your little videos that the wind wasn't so fierce today.
Wish us luck in our match against Gloucester Hospitals tomorrow, Garry (if the weather allows).
We'll certainly need it!
