Today was the final part of yesterday's walk towards Castleton and then onto Edale.
Garry walked down into Castleton along the Limestone Way, through Cave Dale. This was formed from a coral reef some 350 million years ago. No fossils found today though! This was a rocky steep path with views of Peveril Castle.
Whilst Garry was walking towards Castleton from the south, I wandered around the village itself and then walked up the Limestone Way to meet him.
We had coffee and cake before heading back out of Castleton towards Edale, which will be the start of the Pennine Way tomorrow.
It was a long drag out of Castleton towards Edale, but lovely views whenever we turned round to see how far we'd walked. It was a challenge on my lungs but an achievement once we'd got to the top! At the top we met a lovely couple, Richard and Diane and had a chat with them. They were interested in the challenge of the walk and asked for fundraising details. For anyone who has missed the details: Fundraising page for Cancer Research UK
We came down the other side of Hollins Cross, initially a stony track and then muddy pathway through a sheep field, then along a lane until we arrived in Edale to get the bus back to Castleton. A well placed cafe outside the bus stop with some interesting carvings.
A shorter walk today but a biggish ascent . I walked just over 4 miles today with 724ft elevation (hence the exhausted picture as I approached the top!)
Tomorrow is the start of the long awaited Pennine Way. Garry is approaching it with slight trepidation....
Great to meet you at the top of the hill today close to Mam Tor . Diane and I were both struggling when we reached the top. You are doing the walk for such a great cause close to our hearts. By the way the QR code is not working - it said it had been de-activated.
