Day 11 Bridestowe to South Zeal

 

All three of us set off from Bridestowe, buying 'Fat Slab' cake from the village shop for later and passing the church.

After a mile, me and Alfie turned around back to the car as Garry headed to the Granite Way. The Granite Way is a disused railway line and it was lovely to walk along in the dappled sunlight. Garry saw Sourton church and Sourton bridge along the Way.
            


              


I parked near Okehampton Train station and me and Alfie walked along The Granite way back to meet Garry.



We enjoyed a coffee and a piece of biscoff brownie at Okehampton Train station.



All three of us walked onwards towards South Zeal. After a mile or so, I turned back (just before a hill!) and Garry continued onto South Zeal while I drove on to meet him there.

We both appreciated the shady sections for the walk today. 
14.5 miles for Garry and 7 miles for me today.

When we got back to the AirBnB property we were looking forward to a cuppa and the 'Fat slab' cake. Unfortunately, after one mouthful it has been relegated into making an apple pie/crumble thing. Fat Slab is definitely not cake, more of a savoury pastry! Be warned.....

    Hi Garry, Marie and Alfie, Phil has been telling me about your amazing challenge and I have just read your ongoing Blog. You are incredible, well done. How are the feet and the rest of the body with all the walking? Lovely photos and gorgeous to see Alfie especially racing through the water on the beach. Sending you lots of energy and stamina.       Sally, Thank you for your kind comments. Surprisingly, our feet and legs are holding up OK! Looking forward to walking with you both in a couple of weeks.

Getting ready.....

We have a complete route planned now! We aim  to set off from Land's End on 3rd May 2025. We have decided to take on the challenge of walking from Land's End to John o'Groats, starting in early May 2025. It is likely to take 3 months and cover 1200 miles so definitely a big undertaking. Day 1 Lands End to Penzance

  The plan is to make it to John o'Groats by mid-August.  Today's planned route. 11.5 miles  Lovely weather for our first day of walking.    Once we got to Sennen Cove, I found my first 'End to End' coffee and travelled back to Land's End on the bus so I could meet Garry later on.  Garry walked through paths in Trewidden and passed a church at Sancreed. Looking back towards Sennen Cove. We found each other for lunch after a little traipse through some fields. Time for a cuppa and feet up before tomorrow's trip from Penzance to Porthleven (13 miles).

Day 86 Nybster to John o'Groats (The final day!)

                                                      Lands End to John o'Groats complete! Winding back to yesterday evening, Garry and I had a stroll around Wick harbour.        Much later in the evening, a surprise visitor, Will, arrived in Wick after 15 hours of train travel from London. I've never seen Garry so surprised! A later night than originally planned before the final walking day! This morning, I dropped Garry and Will at Nybster where they began walking northwards along the A99. Me and Alfie headed to park up at John o'Groats.       We met in John O'Groats village and walked together to Duncansby Head, which is the true north easterly point of mainland UK, with some incredible sea stacks.
