We started off in Ladyhill, by a Falconry centre with a little bit of road walking, quickly followed by a really good forestry track. The track went on for a couple of miles, apparently past a beautiful waterfall, but this was nowhere to be seen!
Garry skirted around the edge of a farmyard, Horneystead farm. He then came out on a road and was faced with a choice,
a) Keep to the Pennine way which was around a set of fields, or, b) go on a slightly longer route through lanes. He chose the latter. This is where he saw some sheepdogs rounding up sheep.
From this section of the Pennine Way, Garry could see Shitlington Crags in the distance, no climbers there today His pace quickened as he was due to meet me!
Climbing through Shitlington Crags was much easier than yesterday's climbing through Hadrian's Wall area. (The weather helped as it was dry and sunny, not rainy and windy!) We passed Ealingham Rigg Relay station. This was high above the crags. We did have some wonderful views up here.
From this point we could see down to the valley, we could see the River North Tyne with Bellingham nestling in the valley below.
The walk out of Bellingham was steep uphill, followed by a more gentle undulating walk through some, at times boggy, moor.
The Pennine Way path then came out onto the road at the agreed final rendez-vous point for the day,
We have both seen a number of loud motorbikes, racing through the countryside and villages. We could tell it was a weekend!
Alfie enjoyed a spot of sunbathing in the Airbnb garden when we returned.
Tomorrow's walk will head to Byrness, and we may even walk the extra 4 miles from Byrness to enter Scotland!
