Early start for Garry (I stayed in bed with a cuppa) as he trudged through deserted Saturday morning streets of Ashbourne, passed Sainsbury's on his way to join the Tissington Trail. Garry emerged through the tunnel to be pleasantly surprised by a well maintained trail.
When I heard Garry was a couple of miles from Tissington, I got a wiggle on and me and Alfie drove to meet him in Tissington, a lovely estate run village. I managed to convince Garry to pause for a coffee (and cake!).
Spot the novel cat flap!
After a couple of miles, me and Alfie turned back to return to the car. Alfie was not impressed leaving Garry.
Garry made good progress up to Parsley Hay, enduring a short but torrential downpour. (Thank you Jenny for the recommendation). I enjoyed a coffee, panini and a read on my kindle (The Salt Path) whilst waiting for him to arrive.
After a short break, Garry continued on the Penine Bridleway/ High Peak trail for the final few miles to Tagg Lane Dairy. We had arranged to meet Roy and Katharine. The gelato was delicious here, a definite recommendation for anyone visiting the area.
On our way back to Ashbourne, we stopped off at Tissington with Roy and Katharine to enjoy a wander around the village and strangely, to feed chickens!A total of 17.3 miles for Garry and 5 for me and Alfie. One of Garry's favourite days, despite the rain, largely due to the good trail and beautiful scenery.
We leave our Airbnb tomorrow to head up to stay with Jenny and Andy in Marple. The walk should be slightly shorter from Monyash to Castelton tomorrow.
Wow, Garry. You're fairly eating up the miles! Some beautiful scenery where you are at the moment. Then before you know it you'll be on the Pennine Way! Have you managed to fix anything up with Tom yet. He's been walking in the Lake District with his sister in the last few days. Hope your feet have dried out from all the wet grass - at least you've got those spare dry shoes.
ReplyDeletePennine Way starts next week. Have said we'll meet Tom on Saturday, I'll liaise nearer the time. A bit apprehensive about the Pennine Way tbh!
