Day 4 Stithians to Truro

 


Me, Garry and Alfie got the bus into Stithians and then walked together to Truro. It was mostly lanes and tracks today with a few uphill parts. 

   
  
We walked past the Cornwall Islamic Community Centre in Carnon Downs and down an old quarry, where we saw some bee keepers suited up, carrying smoking hives. 



We called in at Lyner Dairies in Ponsanooth and bought some Cornish yarg cheese for later.


A shady stop off for lunch after 6 miles and then down some more lanes into Truro.

  A planned afternoon rest and then off to my first Tourist Rock Choir this evening!

 Now where's that cake?!

One week to go...

We have one week to go before we start walking so we have started thinking about packing the essentials. Compead plasters and comfy worn in walking shoes has been the major advice. This week there have been doubts creeping in. 'Can we really do this?' However,  Garry spoke with his postie friends at cricket this week who have reassured him that a day's walking is all in a day's work for them, carrying a bag up to 10kg over their shoulder. So we're perfectly reassured now! We've had some walks these last few weeks with and without friends.            Also we've practised eating  some extra carbs (although I'm not sure cakes are the best sort of carb to be eating!   We welcome any more tips....

Day 23 Gloucester Docks to Tewkesbury (Severn Way continued)

  Today's walk was mostly along the Severn Way today. It was blocked in places and very overgrown in places, mainly near Gloucester. We walked through Gloucester to avoid the known blocked part of the Severn Way.    Garry continued via  Sandhurst and then picked up the Severn Way from there.                     Garry had a welcome lunchtime pint in the Red Lion at Wainlode. After a couple of hours, I drove up to Tewkesbury and me and Alfie walked along the Severn Way to meet Garry. Once we got close to a field with cows almost lying on the track, me and Alfie waited on the safe side of the fence. We were next to Cheltenham College rowing club. Once Garry came safely through the cows, we walked back along the river into Tewkesbury to the car.  14 miles walked for Garry today, a total of 298 miles since Lands End!  Tomorrow, Garry will definitely break through the 300 mile mark, with my brother Richard, a...
